What are you and your organization doing for World Water Day or Earth Day? Why not hold an environmental movie festival? Here are some great films for you to choose from:
Trashed. Jeremy Irons hosts this eye opening expose about the amount of garbage we generate and how it is or is not disposed of. Scary but true. The good news is that there are efforts being made to repair the damage.
Garbage Warrior. This documentary chronicles the work of Michael Reynolds the “Radical 
architect-engineer who has been designing and building self-sustaining, eco-friendly homes out of disposable materials for 30 years.”(Netflix) Watch this one after Trashed and you will feel much more hopeful about the future.
The Garden. This award-winning movie was made in 2008. It chronicles the efforts a group of low-income families who struggle to maintain their 14-acre urban farm under political and real estate development pressures.
Blue Vinyl. PVC is touted as a wonder material – especially in the construction industry. This Award Winning 2002 film presents the toxic impacts of PVC in a ‘humorous’ way. Scary.
No Impact Man. Could your family spend a year with no electricity? Could they produce no 
waste for a year? This film is about a family that attempted to do just that – make no impact. Released in 2009 it is startling how dependent we all are on the world’s conveniences.
Chasing Ice. Time-lapse photography and intense interviews starkly illustrate how the earth’s glaciers are rapidly disappearing. Sobering and beautiful.
The City Dark. How does light pollution affect all of us? Explore the bright night-time sky in 
this haunting 2011 film.
Kilowatt Ours. Jeff Barrie explores the sources of our electricity, the problems caused by energy production and answers the question, “What difference can I make”. An inspiring, 
accessible film that will stir you into action.
