First bill of the year! Lets see how we are doing.  The great weather has resulted in higher solar electric generation from the PV array and the mild weather this year reduced electric and gas consumption from last year – that is great.  Electric consumption may also be down from a conscious effort to turn off lights when not in use and switching off the computers, transformers and television when not in use.  All that leads to an increase in net electricity sold to the electric company.

Water usage is down from last month but still even with last year.  This is unexpected because of the changes to shower heads and faucet aerators to WaterSense, low flow units.  This bears watching.

Next month will include the impact of the air sealing project – so far all but one of the windows and all of the doors have been caulked, sealed and repainted and all but one wall of the basement has had the rim joist sealed and insulated.

That’s an ingenious way of thinking about it.
