Air Sealing – The Saga Continues

by Amy on February 1, 2012

I never told you that it was easy to work in the confines of the rim joist of your house – quite an opening but I wish I had taken a picture of myself today after working along the west wall of my house.  I still have not gotten all of the spray foam, bits of wood and sawdust, caulk and rigid foam insulation out of my hair!

The good news is that I have completed three sides of the house and am about to tackle the south facing wall.

The amazing thing is while working on the west wall I found 6 holes: one was 3″ in diameter and covered outside with a plate, two were 1″ in diameter and were covered outside with siding, one was 1″ in diameter and was covered outside by the meter box, one was a jagged mess about 3″ long and 1-1/2″ tall with a myriad of wires moving though it – it was covered by a meter box and stuffed with wet fiberglass insulation, one was a 1/2″ diameter hole for a cable. All of them are buttoned up now but I continue to be amazed at what I am finding.

Hope that your air sealing project is going well.
